Our history

The Alliance journey began in 2014. Victorian Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) saw the need for a collective Aboriginal voice for the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, especially those in out of home care services.

The Alliance was founded with 13 members with two more members joining since that time. The Alliance was auspiced under VACCHO (2015-2021) and Bendigo District Aboriginal Cooperative (2021-2022).

The Alliance projects the voices of ACCOs to bring about change at every level of government and service delivery. The key activities of the Alliance include advocacy, participation in various governance groups and targeted projects. Through this work we have supported greater information sharing between ACCOs and strengthened their voices in forums. The Alliance also plays a key role in the Aboriginal Children’s Forum.

The Alliance became a registered company under the Corporations Act 2001 on 9th June 2023.

The Alliance Logo

Strong Families, Thriving Children

The Alliance logo reflects the aspirations of the Alliance members working together to achieve strong families and thriving children.

The drawings of the children on Country represent the positive future envisaged by Aboriginal communities throughout Victoria for strong and happy children.

Digital artist, Samantha Paxton (Way Wurru) designed the logo; with advice from Alliance member Karen Heap (Yorta Yorta). The dots symbolise the 13 founding ACCOs of the Alliance. The band connecting the ACCOs represents ongoing communication and knowledge sharing.
